“even when the truth isn’t hopeful, the telling of it is.”

speaking up

from state street in chicago to abc sunday morning news to virtual talks and facilitation, i have shared more about the impact that healing has had on my journey. no two loss experiences are the same, yet there are parallels and shared themes that connect us and help us know we are not alone.

volunteering with the american foundation for suicide prevention (afsp) was a big part of finding my voice in this space. attending grief counseling workshops and becoming certified with the talk saves lives program gave me a foundation for speaking about suicide safely and sharing my story with confidence.

since then, i’ve gone on to speak more about the ways my lived experience has intersected with loss and the importance of feeling and owning our whole stories. every type of loss deserves to be grieved. speaking up about grief and healing has become a part of my story and purpose.
